How long does Botox take to work?

First effects, two-week results and duration: the benchmarks for understanding the evolution of botulinum toxin injections.

The essential benchmarks

The answer in a few words

The effects are not seen when the practice exits. An improvement usually appears in the first week; the result is generally controlled around two weeks. The action usually lasts three to four months, with differences depending on the drug, muscle and person.

Why should we wait after the injections?

Botulinum toxin acts on the signal transmitted to the muscles responsible for certain wrinkles of expression. It reduces their contraction: the skin folds less when you frown or smile. This action gradually settles down. It is different from that of hyaluronic acid, which adds volume in a hollow.

Still seeing frown lines or crow’s feet on the evening of treatment does not mean it has failed. It is also too early to decide whether another injection is needed.

How does the result evolve in the first days?

Benchmarks for expression wrinkles
PeriodWhat you can observe
The day of the sessionSmall red dots or light relief at injection sites. Movements are still present.
The first weekA gradual decrease in contraction. Both sides may not evolve at exactly the same pace.
Around two weeksA usual moment to appreciate the balance of the result and the interest of control.

These deadlines are benchmarks. The product used and the treated area count: the information given after your session remains the same.

Can a wrinkle remain visible at rest?

Yes. A recent ride, especially linked to the movement, does not react like a fold installed for years. If the skin remains marked when the muscle is relaxed, reducing the contraction can soften the fold without making it disappear completely.

The examination makes it possible to distinguish the muscle part from the skin quality or a loss of volume. Depending on the case, a skincare or other procedure can be discussed. Adding products systematically is not the answer to any persistent wrinkles.

How long does the effect last?

For expression wrinkles, action often lasts three to four months, sometimes more. The movements gradually return; the face does not change at any one time at a specific date.

The duration alone is not sufficient to assess the quality of a sessions. The comfort, the position of the eyebrows and the ability to retain expressions also matter. During follow-up, the doctor compares your initial request to the actual evolution.

Do we have to re-inject as soon as the forehead moves?

Finding a little movement does not mean that the treatment must be renewed immediately. The maintenance is decided when the discomfort returns and in accordance with the interval prescribed for the prescribed medicine.

If you have an important opportunity, anticipate consultation and installation time. Avoid scheduling a first session at the last minute: you will also discover how to react to injections.

What to do after the session?

Do not massage and rub the injected areas. Follow the instructions received for facial care and sport recovery. A blue or local sensitivity may occur, even after a brief procedure.

Contact the practice if you are worried about an asymmetry, or if you notice an unusual reaction. A difficulty swallowing, speaking or breathing after an injection requires urgent medical assistance.

Preparing a consultation in Montpellier

Indicate the dates and names of products already injected, including during a session in another practice. Photographs taken before treatment, with comparable expressions, help to follow the evolution.
