How long do hyaluronic acid lip fillers last?

Length of volume, swelling of the first days and maintenance: understand what changes in the lips after injection of hyaluronic acid.

The answer in a few words

A result in the lips often lasts for several months, frequently around six to twelve months. Some gels have a longer duration. The marker depends on the product used, the quantity and your tissues: the initial swelling does not correspond to the volume that will remain.

Why do lips look less voluminous after a few days?

Just after the session, two phenomena overlap: the volume brought by frost and the swelling caused by injections. The latter is common, sometimes more pronounced the next day. When it decreases, the lips appear smaller than on the first day.

This does not mean that hyaluronic acid has already disappeared. The photos taken immediately after the procedure are therefore of little use in judging the holding of the result. The comparison is rather made after recovery, in a similar light and position.

When can we appreciate the final form?

Control is often considered around two weeks. At this stage, much of the swelling is usually resorbed and symmetry feels better. A more lasting sensibility or oedema may require a longer wait.

A small difference between the two sides on the first days does not necessarily imply a correction. If you are worried about something, contact the practice before massage the lip or plan to add a product.

What makes the duration vary?

The gels don't all have the same properties. Some are chosen to draw the contour, others to bring a flexible volume. The useful quantity also depends on the starting form: a discreet correction does not compare to a larger volume change.

The lips are very mobile. Anatomy, previous injections and how the gel evolves in your tissues influence holding. The name and reference of the product are therefore more informative than an announced duration without specifying the care performed.

Do you have to keep your lips clean every six months?

Not systematically. The maintenance appointment is used first to examine what remains: volume, contour, symmetry and comfort. If the result still suits you, there is no need to add frost only because a date is approaching.

Before a new session, indicate the previous products and their date. Accumulating injections without re-evaluation can create too large a mouth or irregularities. The project can remain discreet and be built in stages.

What to expect the days after injections?

Lips may swell for a few days and be sensitive to the touch. Blues can last a week, sometimes more. For a wedding, photos or an important appointment, keep at least two weeks of margin, especially for a first session.

The procedure can sting despite a suitable anesthesia. Once at home, do not massage your lips without instructions and avoid manipulation. The recovery of makeup, sport and care follows the indications received in the practice.

Does an injection in your lips fit everyone?

The care concerns adults who wish to correct an insufficient contour, asymmetry or volume. On a mature mouth, the examination takes into account the skin around the lips and dental support. A young lip already well designed does not necessarily require extra volume.

An infection or a fever button leads to postpone the procedure. Report history of herpes, allergies and treatments. Strong or increasing pain, a white or marbled area, or a visual disorder after injection require immediate management.
